Online Collaboration
Jennifer L. Wagner
Online Project Coordinator
Why collaborate anyway?? You are content.....you have your lesson plans, you work within your own classroom, students/parents/admin are happy, you get through each day, and YOU ARE DOING A GREAT JOB!! What is the benefit of having other people's input on what you are doing.........right?? (smiles)
The internet has opened the floodgates of opportunities to expand your network and get 24/7/365 feedback on pretty much anything you wish. The options are endless on ways that YOU can give and receive advice, hints, troubleshooting helps, lesson ideas, helpful criticism, and more!! If you are only using your own intellect and understanding, you are limiting your students and limiting yourself. By joining a variety of network options -- you will increase your knowledge and be a better teacher -- even better than you already are!!
(we will NOT be using this slideshow in this session......but please feel free to view it at your own leisure!)
Online Projects
Online projects allow collaboration opportunities for you and your students across the world. They are an easy and exciting way to motivate and enthuse your students. With Online Projects you can post projects on the web, email with other students, chat with classrooms worldwide, create discussions on a wiki, and much more. Projects can be as simplistic or as indepth as you wish.

Skype lets you make free calls over the internet to anyone else who also has the service. It's free and easy to download and use, and it works with most computers. You have the options of a text chat, an audio chat, a video chat, or all of the options at one time. You can record your chats, expand the conversations with extra tools, and more. You also have the option to have group conversations with up to 8 participants. Again, this is free for skype to skype calls WORLDWIDE!!
Take the concept of Instant Messaging to a much higher level. Choose your own network -- who you follow, who follows you -- and share, learn, guide, suggest, hint, laugh, direct, correct, explain, and more.........it is your network and it is available ALL THE TIME!!

Del.icio.us
Share your bookmarks with everyone and anyone. You can install a tag creator within your browser which enables a quick save to del.icio.us. You can create folders for your bookmarks for easy access. The network option allows you to see what others have saved as well.
SlideShare & PowerPoint Presentations
Find presentations which have already been created and uploaded to the internet for your use within the classroom!! Take the time to upload and share your creations as well!

PhotoStory, iMovie, Animoto
Your students have stories to share.......and what better way to share than to create an online presence and have their peers/friends/family comment on what they are sharing. From the simplest of storylines to those that are very in-depth, your students should be learning to express themselves both verbally and visually!!

It is a free online software and the possibilities are endless. You do need to have a google account to created google docs -- but you can share them with anyone!! You also have the ability to download google docs in a vareity of ways!!

UStream
Ustream.tv is a live video streaming venue. Many of the TechTeachers that I follow have started taking their computers to conferences and (after asking permission from the speaker) they are streaming the session live. You can create a log in to be able to interact in the chatroom or you can just listen without having to sign in. Friday has become UStream Professional Development Day!!
